What is "Building A House"?

"Building A House" is a blog about my journey back to God. The name comes from Proverbs 24:3-4 (The Message), "It takes wisdom to build a house, and understanding to set it on a firm foundation; it takes knowledge to furnish its rooms with fine furniture and beautiful draperies."

No, this isn't going to be a blog about making my house look pretty - at least not pretty on the OUTSIDE. But, I'm going to be working on getting my house
"pretty" on the SPIRITUAL side. I'm coming back from a pretty dark place in my life after losing 8 babies to miscarriage. This blog is about my journey back
to the Lord.

Matthew 19:26

When Jesus said it was easier to gallop through a needle's eye than for the rich to enter God's kingdom, the disciples asked who has any chance at all, to which Jesus replied,

"No chance at all if you think you can pull it off yourself.
Every chance in the world if you trust God to do it."
Matthew 19:26

It is so comforting to know that even though *I* can't do it, *God* can - and he does!

Proverbs 14:21

"It's criminal to ignore a neighbor in need,
but compassion for the poor - what a blessing!"
Proverbs 14:21 (The Message)
This verse is one I'm trying to live out and trying to teach my children. I think they're getting it and I LOVE seeing that! I've mentioned this before, but it brings tears to my eyes to remember it again... The other day, my boys made a HUGE meal for a homeless widow we saw sitting by the grocery store. They gave her a hug, the food and a Bible and then we all prayed with her. It was an amazing experience for them to actually LIVE out what this verse and so many others in the Bible talks about!

Proverbs 14:24

This one makes me laugh...

"The wise accumulate wisdom;
fools get stupider by the day."
Proverbs 14:24

Oh, so true! And I was once was (and can still be) such a fool!

Proverbs 14:10

"The person who shuns the bitter moments of
friends will be an outsider at their celebrations."
Proverbs 14:10 (The Message)

There is nothing more painful than a friend walking away during a time in your life when you need them the most. I am so incredibly blessed to have the friends I have today - friends who have stuck by my side through all the ugliness in my life. The bitterness, the anger, the rage. They have stuck with me, prayed for me and had a shoulder for me when I've needed one. And today, they DO get to celebrate with me. They get to celebrate as I come to know Christ in a whole new way and as so many things in my life are getting better and better. Thank you to all my friends!

Psalm 28:6-7

"Blessed be God - he heard me praying. He proved he's on my side;
I've thrown my lot in with him. Now I'm jumping for joy;
and shouting and singing my thanks to him."
Psalm 28:6-7 (The Message)
Yes.. God heard my prayers and has answered them. Not all as I would have wished, but he did answer them and helped me accept the answers I didn't like. I AM jumping for joy. I have joy because I know he is real and he hears each and every prayer I pray. And I know that he loves me and only wants the best for me. Sometimes, the best for me isn't want I want, but it is always what I need.

Psalm 27:13-14

"I'm sure now I"ll see God's goodness in the exuberant earth.
Stay with God! Take heart. Don't quit.
I'll say it again: Stay with God."
Psalm 27:13-14 (The Message)

Take it from someone who knows... I stayed with God through all the heartache and loss in my life and never gave up. Sure, I felt like doing so at times and at times I felt like God had abandoned me, but something deep within me kept me turning back to him. I might have gone months without praying or getting into the Word, but I still felt that still small voice within me, gently calling me back. I'm so incredibly thankful that I listened...

Psalm 27:4-5

"I'm asking God for one thing, only one thing:
To live with him in his house my whole life long. I'll contemplate his beauty;
I'll study at his feet. That's the only quiet, secure place in a noisy world,
the perfect getaway, far from the buzz of traffic."
Psalm 27:4-5 (The Message)

This is oh, so true! The only consistently quiet, secure place in this world is at the feet of Jesus.Trust me... I know this ALL too well having two rambunctious boys and a teen daughter! That and my closet where I keep the truffles my husband keeps me well stocked up with!
